Empowering Communities. Driving Sustainable Change

At the Human Welfare Organization, we strive to uplift marginalized communities in Bangladesh through impactful and sustainable development programs that address education, health, and environmental needs.

Who We Are

Human Welfare Organization (HWO) is a non-political, registered development NGO in Bangladesh, founded by Dr. Suramoni Singha in 2000 and formally registered in 2007. We design and implement community-centered development solutions that strengthen socioeconomic resilience for underserved populations, including rural families, indigenous groups, and tea garden workers.
• From healthcare empowerment and quality education to renewable energy access and economic inclusion, HWO goes beyond short-term relief to build lasting impact at the grassroots. Our work includes primary health services, microfinance support, sustainable energy technologies like solar systems and improved cooking solutions, and vocational learning programs that equip communities to thrive.
• We tackle development challenges through innovative programs and strategic partnerships that deliver measurable outcomes. Our mission prioritizes dignity, sustainability, and community leadership so that vulnerable populations can drive their own futures.

For the welfare of Bangladesh

We have been implementing Improved Cookstoves, providing services such as microcredit, initiating on Primary Health Care and more!

Mission Focus: Primary Health and Medicare

We ensure essential primary health and medicare services for our target communities across operational locations (e.g., Sreemangal and Kamalganj). We achieve this by establishing comprehensive facilities equipped with modern technology (HWO Primary Health Care), raising awareness, building community capacity, and linking affected people with formal GO-NGO service networks for socio-economic rehabilitation.

Mission Focus: Quality Education and Training

We promote quality primary education with a special emphasis on girls, disabled, and working children. Beyond formal systems, our HWO Learning Centers offer innovative occupational and functional education for adolescents and adults, alongside vital community training on health, nutrition, sanitation, rights, and entrepreneurship.

Sustainable Energy and Environmental Stewardship

Through HWO Energy Limited, we drive sustainable development by providing affordable, renewable, and energy-efficient solutions. We are transforming energy access in rural Bangladesh by implementing technologies like solar panels and building Improved Cook Stoves (Apon Chula and IDCOL ICSs). Our focus is on reducing the environmental impact while empowering local households with cleaner, more efficient energy for a greener tomorrow.

Sustainable, Yet Renewable Energy Projects

At HWO Energy Limited, which is a subsidiary under HWO (Human Welfare Organization), our goal is to provide sustainable, renewable, and energy efficient solutions to communities at affordable costs. We are committed to implementing technologies such as solar panels and building improved cookstoves like the Apon Chula and IDCOL ICSs. These initiatives not only reduce environmental impact but also empower local households by providing cleaner, more efficient energy alternatives. Our focus is on making energy solutions accessible to all, driving long-term socio-economic and environmental benefits.

We are committed to driving sustainable development and improving the welfare of vulnerable populations. Through innovative programs and strategic
partnerships, we address critical challenges in healthcare, renewable energy,
education, and economic empowerment.

Integrated Community Development

HWO expands access to opportunity and essential services across urban and rural Bangladesh, delivering inclusive microfinance programs in Sylhet City, Kulaura, Kamalganj, Sreemangal, and marginalized tea garden communities where income levels fall below national averages, enabling small entrepreneurs and low-income families to build sustainable livelihoods and strengthen household resilience, while simultaneously providing essential medical support through its Primary Health Care services in Sreemangal, focused on preventive care, early intervention, and accessible treatment for underserved populations.
